Nora, Cat Extordinaire

I noticed this article via Twitter yesterday and just had to share! After my rant yesterday, I was truly sure that most of society had lost it's marbles. It's little things like this that refresh the soul and reaffirm that there is still softness (no pun intended) in the world. I wholeheartedly encourage you to read this article and watch the video...

The Unicorn

A unicorn is a mythical and legendary animal depicted as a beautiful horse with a single strong horn on its forehead. It is believed by many, a unicorn had the hind legs of an antelope, the beard of a goat and a tail of a lion.

In Chinese mythology, a unicorn is known as a Ki-Lin or Chi-Lin. The ancient Chinese believed a unicorn to be represent great and good things and also as a harbinger of good fortune. According to one of the Chinese legends, Chi-Lin would appear at the time of birth of wise men and emperors. They also believed at the time of birth of a Chinese philosopher and thinker Confucius, a Chi-Lin appeared carrying a piece of imperial jade in its mouth. The prophecy of the baby was written on it.

A Very Witchy Garden Update

The last couple weeks have been unbearably hot and it's been a bit of a struggle trying to keep my little herb garden from wilting in the sweltering afternoon heat but I've managed to do pretty good.

It wasn't that long ago that I put in my herb garden and pond and looking at the pictures I took right after I planted, I can see just how far they've come!

My cats love to dring the refreshingly cool pond water and have not benn tempted to do any fishing and love to feel hidden amongst all the bushy herbs. I have even been able to throw together a few tasty dishes with clippings taken from my favorites. I still have a few things in mind for appearance of the garden but right now, I'm feeling pretty darned pleased!

Tarot Perfection

There's going to be a new tarot deck this next spring (2010) and I can't hardly stand it. I have never seen such artistry as is in this deck! Shadowscapes Tarot by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law will be published by Llewelyn next year and I can hardly wait...I followed each card as she has added it, put myself on her mailing list so I could get the latest updates...I believe I've even had dreams about holding this gorgeous deck in my hands...Oh my gosh, I'm a tarot stalker!

I came close to this reaction when Ciro Marchetti put out The Tarot of Dreams but it's going to be a close one. I have a list of "must have" decks...some I have already acquired since I started making my list but there are a lot more I've been drooling over, thinking to myself "someday." I remember when I saw the very first deck I simply had to have...it was The Baroque Bohemian Cat's Tarot and it seemed to snowball after that. Tarot decks, Oracle decks, whimsical decks, the Dreaming In Color Luman deck....I could go on forever....

I noticed the popular tarot stores also seem to contribute to my tarot delinquency especially Amazon...who can resist that "Buy Now!" button...well, I can tell you it surely is not me. Anyhow, I believe I digress a bit too much so check out the tarot card links...I know you won't be disappointed!

Serenity Sunday

The Full Moon tonight generally goes by the epithet of the "Rose Moon," or the "Flower Moon," while people in certain areas blessed with berries prefer to call it the "Strawberry Moon." But even in a month with that many Moon monikers to go around, only the first Full Moon gets granted a formal name. Following the Rose/Flower/Strawberry Full Moon of Saturday, June 1, the Sunday June 30 return, like all second comers, will be hailed simply as the "Blue Moon"

There are in fact two definitions for a blue moon. According to the more recent definition, a blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month. For a blue moon to occur, the first of the full moons must appear at or near the beginning of the month so that the second will fall within the same month (the average span between two moons is 29.5 days).

My List:

1.) My children

2.) My cats

3.) Dreams

4.) Herbs

5.) Laughter

6.) Periwinkles

7.) Green eyes

8.) Memories

9.) Warm nights

10.) African Violets

Tale Of Two Chariots...

Yesterday, I touched upon the Strength card and the Chariot card as far as soft and hard control and thought it might be fun to compare the Chariot cards from two different decks and how the artists' depiction can subtly change basic meanings. On the left is the Chariot card from "The Baroque Bohemian Cat's Tarot" and on the right is the Chariot card from my "Tarot of the Magical Forest." The first thing I notice is how the BBC Chariot shows a rather dignified kitty, firmly holding the reigns and looking very much in control and in charge but when I look at the Chariot from the Magical Forest, I see a small wide eyed porcupine looking as if he hopes that he is in control but is just unsure enough to look a bit freaked out... to add to it, his oxen don't look any more confident than their driver. It's interesting how both cards have the meaning of control and composure but the differences of artists' interpretation can add a different perspective so that when these two cards come up in a reading, I might say that in the case of the Magical Forest, the individual is feeling somewhat out of control in a situation and might need to step back and reevaluate their position.... with the BBC tarot I would head in an opposite direction and say that there is the feeling that this person is hanging on to their control too tightly and could benefit from loosening their grip a little bit and some relaxation might be in order.
