"What Is....?" Wednesday

When the moon is Void Of Course.....

The term VOID OF COURSE refers to the condition of the Moon between the moment it performed the last major aspect with another planet in its current sign and the moment of stepping into the next sign. *Not to be confused with Mercury In Retrograde which turns things upside down with snafus... technical crashes.. delays....and general widespread confusion.*

Why is this important....?

When someone starts working with Lunar energies, they start with maybe following the Moon as she moves from sign to sign and learning about the influences which change as she changes signs every few days. Then they may then start planning activities according to the phase of the Moon... starting projects at or after the New Moon, watching them come to fruition at full and using the waning phases to evaluate and wrap up and finally ending the project as the Moon becomes dark again.

Eventually, they will come across the term, Void-of-course Moon or the indicator v/c or VOC. This is a special condition of the Moon which occurs for varying amounts of time as the Moon moves from one sign to the next and makes aspects to the other planets and if used can be a very effective way to get the cosmic energies to make life go more in your favor.

So... Now what...?

Many people feel scattered or without direction during the void period. It is a good time for introspection/reflection and getting centered and focused. Often, purchases made during this time turn out to be poorly made, left unused, plagued with mechanical problems, or generally a bad investment.

Mostly I just try to keep in mind when doing magickal workings, to always check my  calendar and work around the Void.  In my experience with spells and rituals is that basically  I am just  wasting my  time if I do any kind of magic when the moon is void of course.

( Note To Self: Check the Mercury in Retrograde chart...because this has to be the umpteenth time I have tried to save and post this!)

Magical Monday

Inspiration can come in many ways and bringing a little magic into your daily life is not as difficult as most would think. What is it that moves or inspires you? The sound of ocean waves...the scent of a forest in the morning mist...the sound of birds chirping outside your window...the feel of fresh fallen leaves under bare feet? Sometimes it can be as simple as pulling weeds from the garden or watering flowers in your window boxes.

Sometimes though, we just can't find inspiration and just feel bogged down and stagnant... it can happen to the best of us and when we get focused on that which is not happening, we can miss the small moments of magical inspiration that occur quite often...we just need to listen with all our senses.

A great way to break through the occasional slump I can fall into is to get up, get out and take a walk. There's a terrific local park close by with lots of tall trees, soft green grass and soon...plenty of fallen leaves. I find a tree (preferrably an older, wise looking tree) and sit down at it's base and close my eyes. I listen to the birds chirping, smell the damp grass, I feel the energy of the tree resonating within me.

After spending a half an hour or so, I feel refreshed and renewed...ready to start aknowledging the everyday inspirations that I may have missed before. What are some ways that you  bring the magical, the inspiration of the natural world into your everyday life? I have found that the more I take time to just be still, to listen, touch, smell and hear what mother earth is presenting to me to inspire my life, the more sensitive I am when these little moments happen.

Attack Magic

Evil eye is a look that is believed by many cultures to be able to cause injury on the person at whom it is directed. The term also refers to the power, attributed to certain persons, of inflicting injury or bad luck by such a look. The idea that the term (which has been around for over a millennium denotes causes many cultures to pursue protective measures against it.)

The concept and it's significance vary widely among different cultures. Belief in the evil eye is ancient and widespread; it occurred in ancient Rome  and is found in Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu and Christian cultures, being particularly prevalent today in the Mediterranean  and Aegean.

The "curse" is usually thought to be unintentional, although it can be deliberate (in southern Italy it is believed that some people - gettatori - are spiteful and deliberately cast the evil eye on their victims). In  Greece and Turkey  there are  glass blue eye charms to ward against the evil eye are still regularly sold - very often to be pinned on a baby's clothing. A religiously devout as well as superstitious nation, as the Greeks are, they will often wear a protective charm, or mataki, as well as the cross, around the neck.

I'm not too sure about the Evil Eye myself but I do know there are types of attack magic and unfortunately there are those people out there that do not subscribe to the three fold law (and just as unfortunately are pretty miserable human beings inside). One type of attack magic is that of psychic vampirism...I know it sounds silly but have you ever been around someone who after a few hours just makes you feel tired and drained and you just want them to go away? These people (mostly unintntentionally) are needy types and can drain ones energy just by hanging around.

Some people, out of misguided ideas about what witchcraft truly is, seek out to affect others using this technique, so it is always a good rountine to shield yourself from all the harmful and negative energy that surrounds us most of the time. I don't mean you have going around paranoid and suspecting everyone that is around you but a little healthy prevention is always good!
