Serenity Sunday

In earlier times, farmers would often haul stones from ancient circles and build their homes from them, as they held special significance being from those sites. Later, houses were built upon the cornerstone principle in which it was significant because all other stones or bricks were then set in reference to the cornerstone.

Over time, the cornerstone became part of a symbolic celebratory process and placed in  prominent outside corners of  buildings, almost like a cultural representation of the peoples that designed and built them. Some cornerstones included time-capsules that represented the era that a particular building was erected or items specific to the town or city that it was built in, so that future generations can look at these items and ponder on them.

What is the cornerstone that makes up your spirituality...? What is included in the foundation, in which you set all of your beliefs around...? Are there any specific traditions that you include in your beliefs, that you pass on to your children (like a time-capsule for the future)...? Meditating on these things helps to focus ourselves in our daily practices and ground ourselves in the important aspects of our beliefs and why we hold them dear.

The other day I published a post on pet safety during the holidays, I received an comment yesterday morning thanking me about spreading the information. In this comment,  Pet Poison Hotline gave me a few more things to keep in mind like  holiday foods, ornaments and other things that can be life threatening to your pets during the holidays. Dr. Justine Lee, DVM, DACVECC, Associate Director of Veterinary Services at the Pet Poison Helpline in Minneapolis, has a wonderful website that gives additional information on things we can  easily overlook during the busy holiday times. Please stop by her website and read her list of dangers.

The people known as "The Sidhe" (pronounced Shee) or people of the mounds were descended from the "Tuatha de Danann who settled in Ireland millennia ago.

Down through the ages the Sidhe have been in contact with mortals giving protection, healing and even teaching some of their skills to mortals - Smithcraft or the working of metals being one such skill.  The Gaelic word  "Sidhe" refers to these otherworldly beings now called fairies.

The Irish fairy is not like the diminutive fairies of other European countries, the Sidhe are described as tall and handsome in all accounts, also they are dressed very richly and accounts of their halls are of richly decorated places with sumptuous foods and drinks.
