Serenity Sunday

Writing a gratitude journal can be a great way of learning a more positive way of thinking. It helps you to really appreciate the small pleasures in life, and to appreciate the things you do have, instead of the things you don't. It can even be a useful tool for
helping you overcome milld depression.

This type of journalling is great. It's a subtle way of easing yourself into a new, more positive way of thinking about yourself and the world at large. A gratitude journal can lift away your depression and enhance your creativity. It teaches you how to appreciate the things you have and to find new beauty and magic in the things around you.

What is a gratitude journal?

The gratitude journal is simply a journal you use to capture gratitude. It can be sexy and luxurious or as plain and simple as you want it to be. You can use a simple notebook, some white paper or a diary. Once you have something to write in you will write 5 things that you are grateful for that day. You can do this right before bed or in the evening sometime. These don’t have to be big earth shattering revelations, as most things you are grateful for are not. These entries are what matter to you and what you are grateful for. This is a very personal venture.

The only 2 rules with the gratitude journal are:

1.) Everything in it must be positive and...
2.) You must list at least five things you are grateful for.

Ideas behind the gratitude journal

By looking for things that you are grateful for each day you automatically start seeing the positive side of everything. You begin to focus on what you have rather than what you don’t.

My List:

1.) My family

2.) My pets

3.) Autumn is coming

4.) Great friends

5.) Fabric softener

6.) School starts Wednesday

7.) New books

8.) Cat toys

9.) Scented candles

10.) Good music

Interesting . . . I'm going to have to think about this one. Don't you end up writing about the same things over and over . . . maybe I'm just being pessimistic and I need to start one of these journals right now :)

I was thinking that too, but then I thought I could put the standard - really nearly goes without saying and each day could be other than the standard what happened just today that I am grateful for.

Liz, I love that you are thankful for fabric softener. It's those little details that are so important!
Seriously, this is such a great idea. I was inspired to start my own list on my blog, and to make sure you had credit for it! Good journalling!
