Tarot Tuesday

I drew these cards one day last week, as I have a routine of doing everyday and found myself quite surprised. I usually sit and ponder my daily draws as I sip my morning coffee and this day was really not much different this day until their meaning suddenly came to me...it was the Serenity Prayer. I'm not sure if many are aware of this prayer, it's one of the sayings from Alcoholic's Anonymous and goes something like this...

God, grant me the Serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the Courage to change the things I can
And the Wisdom to know the difference.

It was so surprising because my little inner voice came through loud and clear and there was no doubt in my mind that this was their message to me and as I glanced at the calender, I happen to notice the date...May 19th, my mother and step-father's anniversary. Tarot never ceases to amaze me because you see, my parents met at a meeting many years ago and are still happily married today, it had slipped my mind but my cards knew. I was reminded to call them and wish them a very Happy Anniversary.

Tarot Tuesday- Three Of Pentacles

The Three of Pentacles, like the Threes in the other suits, represents the initial completion of a goal or plan. In this case, the Three seems to imply the fulfilment and manifestation of a creative venture, business, or building project.

The inspiration of the one is beginning to be concreted in the material world, and the decisions of the two have been made successfully. An initial satisfaction is now being enjoyed and the project is well underway.

The message of the Three of Pentacles, therefore, is primarily one of encouragement. If you continue to work toward the fulfilment of your dreams and do not allow disillusionment to dampen your enthusiasm, ultimately you will experience prosperity and success in your goals.

What new beginnings are you experiencing in the material realm? Is there some project or creative venture you have been putting off because of fear of failure? The Three of Pentacles indicates that dreams can be made real with persistence, determination, and effort.

Tarot Tuesday

This card depicts a fox in fine looking garb holding a set of scales in his left hand. Two robed foxes are holding out their hands at his feet. He is giving coins to the one on the right of the image, but not the one on the left. Above are the six pentacles... Three along the top of the card... two more under the left side of the card and one more under the right. This gives a slight impression of imbalance.

This can imply the division between those with resources and those without. Remember, there are many kinds of resources; money, time, power, information, imagination, ability. This card may represent the fact that maybe your resources are limited: you can't do everything, and you can't help everyone, you can't have your cake and eat it. Sometimes you need to make hard choices. Sometimes you don't get something and someone else does. It's not fair, but sometimes there is just not enough for everyone.

In my experience I have found that the two most common themes that clients identify with are...1.) You need to make sure that with your giving ....you do not come across as better than or more important than those you are helping... and... 2.) It is a good idea that you keep an eye on your resources and not over extend yourself and in turn be the one needing help.

Tarot Tuesday

In the Three of Cups we can see three maidens, one dark haired wearing a blue dress, one fair haired wearing a mauve dress (in some decks her dress is red) and one red haired wearing a green dress, each holding a golden cup and appearing very jovial and festive. In the foreground there are baskets filled with ripe fruits of all kinds and gives the impression of mid to late summer.

This card is all about harmony, fullfillment and possibly a festive get together. Good times, good friends and scarcely a care in the world and on occasion, good luck. You may be feeling filled with gratitude for life's gifts and want to celebrate with those you care about around you. This is a time when enjoying yourself is as important as working hard.

While the three maidens salute the three graces, they are different colors..white representing the source of all things and unity, since white light contains all colors, blue is the color of the element water, and the subconscious mind, green is the color of the element earth, and represents life, nature, abundance, and all growth.

The Three of Cups is a very positive card and indicates happy times to come but on occasion, it can indicate that maybe you are working so hard that it is a great time to cut yourself some slack and enjoy the goodness and fun times life has to offer.

Tarot Tuesday- The Two Of Swords

In this card, we can see a small blindfolded white cat in a rose colored dress sitting on a bench on what appears to be a pier with an ocean (or at least a lake) behind her. Her swords are poised upwards, one in each hand and they look to be at equal distance and height from each other. In the purple sky behind her we can see a waxing crescent moon.

Looking at this little kitty I am struck by the question "Why does she sit blindfolded with the swords in her hand, when she can very easily put down her swords and remove the blindfold?" "I wonder why she sits there rather rigidly when she might not have to.." To me her face looks rather pensive as I can see no visible frown nor smile.

In studying the Two of Swords, the common interpretation is that it implies that you are faced with a decision and perhaps you are in a state of denial about the importance of your choice. Notice the blindfold on the cat...maybe she chooses to remain blind about this decision and cannot or will not look at the truth... or even acknowledge that it exists. The swords seem to indicate a barrier between herself and something (or someone) else.

The most obvious barrier that I can imagine would be a closed heart. When we cut ourselves off emotionally, we sever the connection that allows our love to flow outward and even inward for that matter. Sometimes this action is necessary but every time we close off our heart... it seems to get more difficult to open it again. This is the very nature of the question that I asked myself this afternoon regarding a matter that perplexes me as of late.

Upon reflecting on the Two of Swords, I must automatically confront the fact that perhaps something about this situation I've been ruminating on is fearful to me and from this I must move on to the next question..." Why does this frighten me so?" I most decidedly did not like the answer the little cat was trying to bring to my attention at first but I found myself realizing that this card was indeed appropriate for the situation at hand.

I simply must accept the fact that there are fears present but not to let that fear become a stalemate in which I cannot make progress in any direction. "Maybe it's okay to set aside these fears and take the chance...maybe this won't be as fearful as I had imagined..." Sometimes to make any forward movement, we must take that chance... risk that rejection... because without it, we would not encounter some of life's greatest moments or opportunities.

Tarot Tuesday-The Five Of Cups

None of us get a good feeling when the 5 of Cups turns up in our readings, it almost always means that somebody somewhere is going to make us feel let down or sad about something. And when that happens we can end up giving ourselves a hard time.

But there's one important thing to think about when we get disappointed,  it's worth taking a good look at your expectations. Maybe they are a bit unrealistic? Are you expecting a little too much from of the person or situation you are in? Sometimes we can be very hard on ourselves and need to stop and realize there are still two cups that have not fallen and as we all know, crying over spilled milk will get us nowhere!

Are you expecting more than you have a right to? Are you expecting things that the person in question, yourself or a given situation is simply not able to give? If the answer to any of the above is yes then by realistically changing your expectation, you'll stop being disappointed.

When this card comes up, it warns us that either we have failed to resolved an old difficulty, or that realistic or not, our expectations are about to be disappointed. Often this will happen in an emotional situation (because this is a Cups card) but can happen elsewhere in our lives too, because disappointment itself is an powerful emotion. Finding out where the problem is may help but there's not much that can be done except preparing ourselves to accept the inevitable fact that sometimes in life, there are going to be disappointments.

One thing that is always worth keeping in mind with a card like this is that the feelings which come up when it occurs often scare us into not taking another risk, not making another effort, or choosing situations where we won't be disappointed again. So maybe we need to  remind ourselves of that inner reserve of strength and capability we all have.

Tarot Tuesday

The Hanged Man is traditionally suspended between two upright poles but in The Deviant Moon Tarot, we see a gentleman who is suspended from one pole by a rope tied around his ankle and the other leg bent, holding his arms behind his back. Did you notice that there is a pocket watch dangling from his bent leg? We have seen this before in the Four of Pentacles, indicating once again, there is a time issue present.

In the Rider-Waite tarot, the Hanged Man represents the hope and fear of a different more challenging path, re-examining your priorities and establishing if they conform to the spiritual principals you choose to live by. Sometimes, The Hanged Man indicates that a lesson that needs to be learned and symbolizes the revelation that life is different depending on whichever way you choose to look at it.

Keywords for the Hanged Man are sacrifice, letting go, surrendering, passivity, suspension, contemplation, non action and waiting. In the Deviant Moon's Hanged Man however, the pocket watch seems to dangle from the very edge of his boot reminding him that opportunities are being missed, valuable time is wasting away and stands as a reminder us that contemplation and non action can have it's consequences...if we become too apathetic, waiting and becoming passive, life will surely pass us by.

Tarot Tuesday

The Ten of Swords represents an ending and utter despair. This card signifies the "victim" mentality. It's time for an attitude change, you were at bottom but that can change.

This is the card of despair, mental anguish, ruin and pain. It usually represents an end of something because of treachery, backstabbing, and/or misfortune. The loss seems particularly bad because you didn't see it coming and it takes away something you were counting on.

On this card, we see a man dead with ten swords in him, a bit of overkill. It is a frightening looking card and sometimes everything just... goes... wrong. This is a card that lets the person having their cards read know that, yes, things are as bad as he fears but as the man on the card shows us, the swords have done their worse. It is over.

Although something is coming to an end according to this card, the Ten of Swords suggests that this won't be easy but deep down they know that certain things must happen so that new chapters can begin. They've been through some difficult times and although it won't be an overnight change, things can only get better from here. The number ten represents hope and out of the ashes, the phoenix will rise. New beginnings will be built on firm foundations as they'll have learned through the benefit of experience.

Tarot Tuesday

The Page of Pentacles

The Page of Pentacles seems deep in thought as he stares at an old Pentacle, rusty with age. He stands in the center of a circular stone slab with a factory looming in the distance. He himself appears to be created of various parts, like those at his feet, and ponders just what he could create with this wonderful discovery he has made.

The Page of Pentacles, like the pages of all the suits, is a card of new beginnings, of inspiration and the initial stages of a creativity. The Page is absorbed by the Pentacle in his hand which represents his goals and dreams and  the beginnings of awareness not only in terms of money and its value, but also in terms of a growing awareness of the importance of health and other material needs.

As many young people do the page of pentacles desires to have an effect on the world. He wants to mold his life and the world around him. The page of pentacles desires to create tangible changes, and he wants to experience nature and life. He is interested in getting the ball rolling, and he is filled with plans that he wants to bring to actuality. This Page  is filled with physical energy, and he is ready to act on his dreams.

In readings the Page of Pentacles brings you opportunities for growth and prosperity. You could be about to experience the rewards that you are due for all your hard work. You’ve done the work and you've experienced and overcome all the problems that were thrown in your way. Now you can reap the rewards.

I am going to take a few days off this week as last week was a bit tough for me but I will be back for Serenity Sunday. I hope you all enjoy your week and I will be back before you know it!

Tarot Tuesday

Continuing on with The Deviant Moon tarot, this morning I pulled The Three of Wands. In a small grassy area we can see a woman waiting expectantly for three wands to bloom. It seems as if she contemplates her journey that has brought her thus far and the expectant fulfillment of all her effort soon to emerge.
The Wands suit in a tarot deck is all about passion and creativity, taking that spark of an idea and putting it into action in order for it to bear fruit and any problems or roadblocks are easily overcome with the Wand's drive and imagination.

You will notice that a living green vine emanates from the woman's navel and attaches to each of the soon to bloom Wands, this emphasizes how we draw upon our passion and energy and pour it into all of our creative pursuits... then we can take that passion and vision, with the aid of imagination, and bring them to fruition.

However, when the Three of Wands turns up in a reading, it may be cautioning  you to take the long view. Don't act in the heat of the moment, but ponder all of your choices and see just how they may figure into the greater picture. The Three of Wands tells you to dream beyond your current limitations.

Taking a view of the larger picture is an excellent sign leadership, which is also an attribute of this card When we understand the complete picture, we can better steer others to their best future. When you see the Three of Wands,  you know that now is the time to accept your creativity and be confident that you can accomplish whatever task you have undertaken.

Tarot Tuesday

Today I drew from my new deck, The Deviant Moon Tarot and the Nine of Swords came up. On this card we can see a rather distraught woman sitting up in their bed with a little imp-like creature gnawing on her shoulder. The Nine of Swords is usually interpreted as depression, nightmares, worry, hopelessness but in this deck I feel it implies more of an anxiety feeling.

I'm sure that everyone can identify with those dreams that we can have that are fraught with anxiety and worry (and that can sometimes wake us from a deep sleep) only to have their worries stick with us for quite some time. When I look at this card, I get the impression that her worry may not be well founded and the little imp creature is her nagging fears that may stem from a  "making mountains out of mole hills" mindset.

This card  indicates the paralyzing nature of our fears and negative expectations. If we allow ourselves to be bound by fear of the future,  we may eventually create a negative reality for ourselves by virtue of our expectations. We must take a wider perspective of the circumstances and not let ourselves be overcome by the negative feelings we are experiencing.

Tarot Tuesday

The Ace of Pentacles, like the Aces of the other suits, is representative of new beginnings, fresh energy, and inspiration. In this case, the pentacles represent the element of earth and therefore symbolize the material world and things associated with matter and the body. Pentacles also represent money and the financial concerns.

The appearance of this card is usually the sign of a turn for the better in terms of fortune and wealth, and sometimes it can even indicate gifts of money, or inheritance from unexpected sources (the coin appearing from "thin air"). This gift does not necessarily mean money though... any kind of gift that has value to both the giver and the receiver can be indicated by this card.

In relationship readings, the Ace of Pentacles may refer to wedding rings and proposals of marriage, which may seem out of place in the Pentacles suit until you realize that such proposals are the solid foundation upon which the castles of love must be built.

The Ace  can also represents the fertile soil in which ideas can be planted to grow and mature. This will be a slow growth, as the Pentacles never move at a fast pace but the success of the harvest is practically assured. The only caveat is that the Pentacles suit demands a realistic outlook. If you want to succeed... start now, hard work is the only thing that is going to produce results with the Ace of Pentacles.

Keep your feet firmly planted in the Earth and let your common sense (and your intuition) guide you to success.

And speaking of material matters....

I've ordered two wonderful new decks this last weekend, the greatly anticipated "Shadowscapes Tarot" by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law which will be sent out the beginning of May and a signed, first edition deck of the Deviant Moon Tarot  by Patrick Valenza, which will be getting mailed to me after he returns from a trip this coming Friday. I'm SO excited! The Deviant Moon is a well spoken of deck and just unique enough to catch my attention...and the "Shadowscapes Tarot"  has been in the making for several years and Stephanie's artwork is simply stunning!

Tarot Tuesday

I've been doing my daily draw a bit different lately and thought that today, for Tarot Tuesday, I would show you an example. Instead of simply drawing one card, I've been drawing two and looking at the elemental dignities associated with the two cards instead of just the normal keyword reading style (and of course factoring in my intuition.) I'm going to speak a bit about the interpretations of each card and then sum up how they combine to make a complete reading.

King of Pentacles (Earth)~ normal keyword interpretation...A reliable man who is cautious and conservative. This man will put family first, most of the time. This man is usually a mature individual, well grounded and financially responsible, eg:one who is practical and very common sense in his approach to problems. I usually also look at his Shadow Qualities as well because normally I do not use reversed cards.

Shadow Qualities of this King include: He can be a couch potato and consumed by inertia so that even conversation with him becomes an impossibility. He may also be workshy but materialistic, wanting everything for the minimal effort. When looking at all these keyword possibilities, my intuition will let me know whether the card in question should be interpreted with normal or shadow attributes.

Using Elemental Dignities: he is an Earth Element, Earth signifies stability, money, possessions, support. Grounded(ness) in material matters and concerns.

Queen of Swords (AIR)~ normal keyword interpretation...A strong willed woman who is independent and very intelligent. Traditionally this card has been seen to indicate a widow. She is quick witted and astute and always has a way of quickly seeing through any bologna or smoke and mirror tactics.
The Shadow Qualities of this Queen are: She can turn cruel, malicious sometimes narrow-minded, bigoted or even deceitful. She is sometimes dangerous too because of her (sometimes her own vanity) charm and beauty.

Because the Queen of Swords is an AIR element, she is about thoughts, ideas  problems, intellect and freedom of mind and soul.

Putting it all together to form a reading: If this client's question pertained to insight into a stormy relationship, I would first have to say that these two personalities were destined for petty squabbles, tremendously different viewpoints and fraught with power struggles. The King of Pentacles in this case would take on the shadow qualities in the fact that he tends to be materialistic and wanting things with little or no effort while the Queen of Swords' independent streak would chafe at the Kings somewhat dogged determination to have things his way. The Queen, who has a strong will would then feel the need to become cruel and cutting with her words. Not the type of relationship where each could feel secure in their positions (in relation to one another.)

If you're wondering why I came to such an odd conclusion, I know these two personalities firsthand, and thus I chose to interpret these two cards this way. It is always to study a subject with a personal point of reference if you would like to truly "get" the meaning (in my opinion but of course my blog is called  "Lizzie's Logic" for a reason! Hee, hee.)

In defense of the King of Pentacles and Queen of Swords, I must say that when on the same page they can indeed be a force to be reckoned with!

Tarot Tuesday

Today's card isn't exactly a tarot card per se...it's considered an oracle deck and one of my favorites! It is The Chimera from Madame Endora's Fortune Cards. This card hails from The Bestiary section of the  Madame Endora's deck, along with The Black Cat, The Gryphon and The Wyvern. The LWB states..." The Chimera represents an unlikely mixture or clash of ideas, a wild fantasy or one who is imaginative but prone to daydreams and flights of fancy. Your pursuits may be unrealistic. Imagination clouds your judgement."

I looked up the Chimera to find out just what the myths were surrounding it and all the paths lead me to one concrete conclusion...this was one mean and vicious creature!

{From the Greek meaning "she-goat" the Chimera is a fire-breathing creature that has the body of a goat, the head of a lion and the tail of a serpent.  Some sources have represented the Chimera with three heads (the lion's head as the main, then the goat's head sprouted from its back, and the serpent's or Dragon’s head on its tail), but the popular myth tells of the single, fire-vomiting head. The very unlikely aspect of the chimera has gradually turned its name into a synonym of a vain dream.}

All myths aside, drawing this card is all about grounding your decisions in reality and making well informed, wise choices... Myths or legends always seem to have a certain romanticized feel to them, like an ancient bedtime story with a few rough edges. We often feel removed from the tale but somehow fascinated by it at the same time.

This is the dreamlike influence that the Chimera represents (not to mention having so many parts can be pretty darned distracting too!) Anyhow, just keep in mind that assessing a given situation and making choices are always best done with a (one) clear head and (two) grounded feet.
