With cell phone use soaring and near-daily stories about the serious risks of phoning while driving, It's no wonder lawmakers are enacting legislation that hopes to prevent such safety hazards. Surveys show that people who use their phones in the car consider themselves safe drivers, even though they rightly identify cell phone use as one of the most dangerous driving activities out there....but did you know that apparently there are far more bizzarre and dangerous activities that take place behind the wheel....? Ones that just make you say "WTF?!
Florida revoked Megan Mariah Barnes' driver's license last week, and less than a day later she proved the wisdom of that decision, causing a car accident on US Highway 1 in the Florida Keys as she shaved her private parts while driving. " About 10 years ago I stopped a guy in the exact same spot who had three or four syringes sticking out of his arm," the highway patrol officer who busted her tells KeysNews.com. "It was just surreal and I thought, 'Nothing will ever beat this.' Well, this takes it. "
It gets better: She was getting ready for a date. With her ex-husband in the passenger seat. Oh, and he was steering. Barnes continued for a half-mile after rear-ending a pickup, then pulled over and hopped out from behind the wheel. " She jumps in the back seat and he moves over," said the trooper. "It was like the old comedy bit, 'Who's on first?'"
Which leads me to my next segment: Word of the day
Common Sense
Common sense (or, when used attributively as an adjective, commonsense, common-sense, or commonsensical), based on a strict construction of the term, consists of what people in common would agree on: that which they "sense" as their common natural understanding.[citation needed] Some people (such as the authors of Merriam-Webster Online) use the phrase to refer to beliefs or propositions that — in their opinion — most people would consider prudent and of sound judgment, without reliance on esoteric knowledge or study or research, but based upon what they see as knowledge held by people "in common". Thus "common sense" (in this view) equates to the knowledge and experience which most people allegedly have, or which the person using the term believes that they do or should have.

We are mourning the loss of a beloved old friend who has passed away. His name was Common Sense. Common Sense lived a long life but died in the United States from a vicious contagious disease.
He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes and factories, helping folks get the jobs done without fanfare and foolishness. For decades, petty rules, frivolous lawsuits, and ludicrous verdicts held no power over Common Sense.
He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in from the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by a simple and sound financial policy. Don't spend more than you earn. Common Sense also lived by other time-tested strategies like: The adults are in charge and not the kids, and it's okay to come in second or third.
A veteran of the Great Depression and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends such as body piercing, 'whole language' and 'new math'.
But his health declined when he became infected with the I'm not responsible for my own actions and It's alright if it feels good viruses. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero-tolerance policies. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.
Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust, his wife, Love; his daughter, Responsibility; and his sons, Diligence and Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers, Deception, Greed and Ignorance. Not many attended his funeral, because so few noticed he was gone.
(obituary in it's entirety here)
People aren't getting any more stupid per say as far as intelligence goes, but the lack of common sense makes them "seem" more stupid to those of us who still use common sense on a daily basis.

Holy Guacamole!
GREAT POST! The state where I live has a law against driving while on the cell phone; and I mourn the loss of Common Sense on a daily basis as well. I think he/she should have a holiday in his/her name.
I almost spit my tea out when I read about that girl. LOL I think I have heard of everything now.
I've come to realize in our world today that it is not about the phone, the texting while driving but rather people are simply not FOCUSED!
Shave at home, but people are in a rush to go nowhere and they won't stop and FOCUS..to breathe, to exhale, to relax and do what they need to do in appropriate places.
People cannot even go to a public bathroom without talking on their cell, they cannot go shopping in the mall without talking on the cell.
No one today is self-efficient or into the NOW..everyone today is simply selfish!
I thought texting while driving was terrible, but it's hard to believe some people are crazy enough to shave while driving??...WOW!!
